Film Club of JMI Students Screens 'Spotlight'
Amman, 8 February (Jordan Media Institute) -- The Film Club of the students of the Jordan Media Institute (JMI) today, Wednesday, screened the American movie "Spotlight," which won two Oscars in 2016 for the best picture and best original screenplay. The movie had been nominated for six Oscars.

The movie, which was released in 2015, is based on the true story of Spotlight, the oldest units of investigative journalism in the U.S. press since the 1970s. The events of the story date back to 2001 when the small press team at the Boston Globe followed a lead that exposed a scandal of sexual abuse of children on a large scale. The scandal was covered up by the Catholic Church in Boston. This led to the resignation of Bernard Law, cardinal of Boston, in 2002. The newspaper received the Pulitzer Prize for public service for this story in 2003.

At the end of the movie, the students discussed the value of journalism, particularly investigative journalism, which the movie focuses on, and its pioneering role in serving the community through revealing such problems and secrets.
