Amman -- The Jordan Media Institute (JMI) held a training workshop for building the capacities of local radios on conducting radio interviews and making documentaries, in partnership with the Support to Media in Jordan program, which is implemented by UNESCO with funding from the EU. The two-day training workshop complements the specialized training workshops held by the JMI as part of its plan to build the capacities of workers and volunteers at seven community radios in the governorates of the Kingdom that are taking part in the project on "building the capacities of local radios."

Since the beginning of 2017, the JMI has carried out a number of training workshops and programs throughout the governorates of the Kingdom on producing field radio reports and preparing and presenting newscasts, besides radio morning shows and variety shows. The aim is for the local and community radios to actually benefit from the training and for this to reflect on their performance. Around 150 people are expected to benefit from the training programs.

Nihad Jariri, director of the project, said that this workshop focused on the importance of prior preparation for any interview, whatever the capacity of the interviewee or the topic, as well as asking follow-up and smart questions, rather than rhetorical questions. This is in addition to good listening during the interview and handling "difficult" guests. She added that in the second part of the course, the participants employed the skills they have learned in conducting interviews to produce radio documentaries and feature stories. They have learned about the principles of producing such programs and the difference from other radio arts that were explained in previous courses, such as field reports and reports produced inside newsrooms.

The targeted radios are Sawt Al Aqaba, Sawt Al Janub, Sawt Al Karak, Tafila Technical Radio, University of Jordan, Liqa FM/Zarqa, and Yarmouk FM/Irbid.
