Amman- Marc Saikali, director of France 24, said in a specialized workshop conducted by the Jordan Media Institute (JMI) that artificial intelligence started to assume the role of humans in the media. Yet, such technological advancement cannot take the important role of journalists as they deliver and explain the story to the receiver.
Saikali, who was speaking at a workshop titled "News Production, Managing Multi-Platform Newsrooms, and Handling User-Generated Content," said that journalism that does not rely on professional and ethical principles would not last long, no matter how much it spreads due to modern technology. He indicated that every press establishment must develop and follow a code of conduct to protect the receiver and journalist alike.
He said that France 24 is a TV station that broadcasts in several languages. It is committed to journalistic freedom and professionalism without any external interventions. It does not use sensationalism, such as images of violence, torture, or scenes of human weakness. This is the basis of professional journalism anywhere in the world.
The lecturer, JMI students, and a number of journalists had a discussion, during which Saikali called for seeking accuracy and objectivity before publishing news "in view of the pain that this could cause to someone or the doubt that it could cast on the credibility of the journalist and his professionalism, and certainly that of the media establishment for which he works." He also urged journalists to develop their skills in writing, editing, and modern technology. They should master their professional tools as this will reflect positively on delivering the media message to the public efficiently and capably.
