JMI’s administration adheres to three main principles in line with good governance practices at institutions offering journalism education:
- Institutionalization: Work is based on JMI’s internal bylaws and comprehensive guidelines. A seven-member board is mandated with formulating its general policies, approving strategic plans and budgets, as well as assessing work. The JMI dean and a number of specialized directors manage the executive side of the institute’s operations.
- Engagement: JMI offers several ways to broaden engagement through an academic council with members from the faculty and a student social committee, in addition to holding regular board meetings. It also provides other means for engagement with the public.
- Transparency and disclosure: JMI allows free access to information on education, training and project affairs, without infringing on individual privacy, which creates a proper culture of accountability.
