Research Projects and Programs

The research was part of the “Media and Culture for Development in the Southern Mediterranean Region – MedMedia” project activities funded by the EU. It aimed to identify the status of media and journalism education systems in nine Arab countries: Jordan, Palestine, Syria, Lebanon, Iraq, Egypt, Tunisia, Algeria and Morocco. The study covered 120 educational institutions in these countries. This research is available in Arabic language.
JMI research unit collaborated with experts in population media to write the National Population Media Strategy as part of the “Development of the National Population Media Strategy (2018–2022)” project in cooperation with the Higher Population Council and the USAID-funded Cooperation with Jordan Communication, Advocacy, and Policy (JCAP) program. The strategy is available in Arabic language.
JMI research unit worked on this study to determine confidence levels in the United Arab Emirates media. The survey, which was conducted in collaboration with the National Media Council in Abu Dhabi, gauges the patterns of UAE residents’ usage of and attitudes toward media outlets. This study is available in Arabic language.
JMI research unit published a report on coverage of women’s issues by local media outlets. The report was part of the “Media and Culture for Development in the Southern Mediterranean Region – MedMedia” project activities funded by the EU. The report is available in Arabic language.
JMI research unit published three reports on the results of qualitative monitoring of three phases of the 2016 parliamentary elections between 16 August 2016 and 27 September 2016. The fourth and final report was published with the final conclusions of the three monitoring reports. The reports are available in Arabic language.
JMI research unit conducted a study to analyze the content of seven local radio stations: Yarmouk FM, University of Jordan, Liqa FM in Zarqa, Voice of Karak at Mutah University, Voice of Tafileh, Voice of the South from Al Hussein Bin Talal University, and Voice of Aqaba under the umbrella of ASEZA.

This study was part of a joint project with the French Media Development Agency (CFI) operating under the umbrella of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Development and UNESCO. It aimed to identify training priorities from the perspective of the journalists themselves as well as media institution leaders.

This textbook was issued as part of the EU-funded “Media and Information Literacy (MIL) in Jordan” project implemented by JMI in cooperation with UNESCO. It aims to develop the skills and capabilities of university students in the concepts of Media and Information Literacy, and is available in Arabic language.
This public policy paper was issued as part of the EU-funded “Media and Information Literacy (MIL) in Jordan” project implemented by JMI in cooperation with UNESCO. It constitutes one of the components of the knowledge foundation on MIL in Jordan, the formation of which JMI is contributing to.

This study aimed to scrutinize the presence of MIL concepts in university curricula in Jordan and determine whether it is feasible for universities to offer BA degrees on two levels. The first is general and entails integrating MIL concepts into some university courses, while the second is more specific, targeting teacher training colleges by offering a course in this field.
This content analysis study was undertaken as part of the “Expanding Public Dialogue on Human Rights Issues through Media” project in cooperation with the Canadian Journalists for Human Rights organization with funding from the Middle East Partnership Initiative (MEPI).
