The Jordan Media Institute (JMI) announced the start of the Master’s programme admission process for the academic year 2014-2015. The Master’s degree in Journalism and New Media is awarded jointly by JMI and the University of Jordan. Applicants can hand in their application forms by visiting the Institute, or submit the form electronically through the online application process on JMI’s website (www.jmi.edu.jo). JMI will offer 50 scholarships this year, both full and partial.

Dr. Bassim Tweissi, JMI’s Dean, explained that as of the beginning of the year 2014-2015, the Master’s programme will be available for the first time in two tracks; the first is the comprehensive exam track which focuses on graduating professional journalists equipped with advanced skills, specifically in the field of digital media, while the second is the thesis track which focuses on academic research, and qualifies the graduate as a professional journalist.

He added that the programme applies advanced quality standards in journalism education, and balances between theory and practice, besides its integration of communication technology and digital applications. He added that JMI is the first educational institution in the Arab world to develop a journalism educational curriculum through making use of digital environment elements, in addition to focusing on building a solid foundation of knowledge and culture among the students.

Dr. Tweissi added that the programme roster along with the guest lectures series by which JMI hosts distinguished guest speakers from all over the world, provide great opportunities for students to learn and explore new horizons. He added that students are given the opportunity to travel outside Jordan to visit international media organizations. For example, a study trip to Norway is being organized this year, and another to media institutions in Sweden, in addition to a trip to the Media and Digital Literacy Academy at the American University in Beirut.

Dr. Tweissi urged journalists and graduates who are interested in working in the field of media to benefit from this opportunity by applying and competing for a scholarship.
