The Jordan Media Institute held a workshop titled “Conflict Reporting, Personal and Digital Security” in cooperation with the Culture Foundation of the Postcode Lottery in Sweden and Reporters without Borders Sweden. The opening ceremony at JMI was attended by HRH Princess Rym Ali – Founder of JMI and Mr. Niclas Kjellström-Matseke, CEO of Postcode Lottery in Sweden.<br />

The 3-day workshop targeted JMI’s MA students in addition to a group of journalists, and was facilitated by 7 experts hailing from Reporters without Borders and the Swedish Radio<span dir="RTL">.</span><br />

During the opening ceremony, Mr. Kjellström-Matseke said that his organization’s support of this activity stems from its belief that journalists should be equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to protect themselves and their sources of information.<br />

Dr. Basim Tweissi, Dean of JMI, said that this specialized workshop on security of journalists in areas of conflict and crisis comes at a critical time for Jordan and the region, noting that the Middle East holds the highest rate in journalist casualties namely during the Iraq war, the Gaza conflict and the recent victims of extremist fractions<span dir="RTL">.</span><br />
<br />
The workshop included a number of subjects such as techniques of investigative reports in areas of conflict, how to reveal the truth and verify information during times of war and assessing news sources. The workshop also included practical exercises and hands-on training on using online security tools for journalists<span dir="RTL">.</span><br />
