Akeed Team Joins Tweetup Event at Jordan Shop

9 May 2015<br /> <br /> Members of the Jordan Media Institute&rsquo;s (JMI) Monitoring the Credibility of the Jordanian Media Project <em>Akeed</em> spent the evening of Saturday 9 May with several young Jordanians who are active on twitter. The tweetup event at the Jordan Shop in Jabal Amman was aimed at promoting the media monitor as a tool that seeks to expose violations and ensure professional standards are respected by outlets.<br /> <br /> JMI Dean Basim Tweissi told the group that <em>Akeed </em>is a tool to hold the media accountable and to advance people&rsquo;s right to accurate information in addition to helping media organizations improve their output. &nbsp;<br /> <br /> Ayham Otoom who is a journalist and is active on social media said <em>Akeed</em> addresses issues with balance and impartiality. He commended the media monitor as a responsible, credible and professional watchdog and a platform for the truth. &nbsp;He also criticized some media outlets for posting weak content that distorts the news to attract followers. &nbsp;<br /> <br /> Nour Laswi who is also active on social media was very happy to be acquainted with the project, which she said was extremely important for exposing fabrications and spreading the truth. Laswi applauded JMI for its efforts to monitor electronic media which is becoming increasingly popular in Jordan.<br /> <br /> The discussion at the tweetup event also focused on how tweeters can help spread the work of Akeed which is run by a professional team and is financially and administratively independent. &nbsp;The online portal <a href="http://www.akeed.jo">www.akeed.jo</a> was launched last year in cooperation with the Democratic Empowerment Program of the King Abdullah II Fund for Development.<br /> &nbsp;
