During the sessions students watched Khardalian’s film Grandma’s Tattoos which highlighted the fate of the women during the Armenian Genocide.
The director, who is of Armenian origin, tried through the film to outline the difference between a documentary film and program and highlighted the importance of the human element as the basis of any documentary.
The students worked in groups to produce short documentaries, applying the elements discussed in the workshop.
Khardalian encouraged the students to think deeply of their surroundings, and to always look for the dramatic elements and various perspectives of a story.
Khardalian said the workshop sought to highlight the importance documentary films in shedding light on forgotten stories.
