Princess Rym Ali Calls for Supporting Young Journalists

<div style="text-align: justify;"><strong>18 February 2016</strong><br /> <br /> Her Royal Highness Princess Rym Ali called for supporting young journalists to get beyond the headlines of a clash of civilizations and to report on the complex social and cultural changes taking place across the Mediterranean region. Addressing the Anna Lindh Foundation (ALF) Ninth Mediterranean Journalist Award in Amman, Princess Rym, who chaired the international jury, said the award should be a central initiative in recognizing and supporting the courage of journalists who are working to present an alternative narrative to the Mediterranean region.<br /> <br /> Her Royal Highness, founder of Jordan Media Institute (JMI), commended the Anna Lindh Foundation for promoting intercultural dialogue &ldquo;which is more essential and critical nowadays to meet the common challenges affecting young people and societies across Europe and the Mediterranean region.&rdquo;<br /> <br /> ALF Executive Director Ambassador Hatem Atallah commended the partnership between the foundation and JMI and Princess Rym&rsquo;s commitment and dedication to the profession of journalism. He told the nominees that the future was theirs and urged them to take the profession forward. &nbsp;&nbsp;<br /> <br /> The winners of the award were: Maimouna Saleck (Mauritania), for &ldquo;Etudiants &eacute;trangers des mahadras en Mauritanie: entre candidats au jihad ou clandestins&rdquo;, published on the web magazine Dune Voices of&nbsp;Media Diversity Institute; India Stoughton (UK) for &quot;Theatre: A cure for Lebanon&#39;s sectarian tensions?&quot; published on Al Jazeera online; and Christian Catomeris (France) for &quot;Back to Lampedusa&quot;, a video documentary broadcast on SVT1.<br /> <br /> The award ceremony came at the end of a five-day Debate to Action Communication and Leadership Program for 25 emerging leaders from seven Arab countries. The sessions were organized by ALF in cooperation with JMI, Common Purpose and UNESCO.&nbsp;</div>
