Jordan Media Institute Organizes Conference on Hate Speech in the Media

<div style="text-align: justify;"><strong>15 February 2016</strong><br /> <br /> Jordan Media Institute (JMI) is organizing a conference under the title &ldquo;Hate Speech in Digital and Social Media&rdquo; in Amman during the last week of April in cooperation with the Norwegian Institute of Journalism. The conference organizing committee is inviting researchers and individuals interested in the topic of hate speech in the media to submit summaries of their papers to the institute.<br /> <br /> The conference aims to provide a platform for experts and media professionals to discuss the situation of hate speech in the Arab media and social and digital media networks in particular, especially after the uprisings and transformations in the Arab world. The delegates will also explore the mechanisms and forces behind the spread of hate speech into social media networks, in addition to the impact of political, cultural and economic factors on the content.<br /> <br /> The conference will present case studies from the Arab world in an effort to identify the presence and indications of hate speech in the content produced by Arab users of social media. The sessions will also highlight the importance of developing digital media literacy curriculum to limit the spread of hate speech in the Arabic content of social media networks and promote ethics and professional standards.<br /> <br /> Researchers interested in the topic &ldquo;Hate Speech in the Media&rdquo; must submit summaries of their papers to <a href="mailto:info@jmi.edu.jo">info@jmi.edu.jo</a>, by 20 March, 2016, in either Arabic or English. Selected research papers will be published in a book after revision.</div>
