Judge Taghreed Hikmet Urges Infusing Culture of Responsibility Instead of that of Immunity

18 April 2016<br /> &nbsp;<br /> Judge Taghreed Hikmet addressed Jordan Media Institute students on Monday 18 April 2016 on the importance of professional ethics as the basis of any profession, noting that trust in the judiciary was key to a country&rsquo;s stability.<br /> &nbsp;<br /> Hikmet who was the first Arab woman judge at the International Criminal Court, said Jordan was able to weather the critical regional conditions through dialogue and consensus. She alluded to the different constitutional and legislative amendments that were introduced over the past few years.<br /> &nbsp;<br /> Responding to a question from one of the students, Hikmet stressed the importance of instilling a culture of responsibly instead of immunity, in reference to corruption. She noted that while some individuals seek the advice of lawyers to find loopholes and escape punishment, they will eventually be held accountable for their actions.<br /> &nbsp;<br /> She also talked about her professional life and how proud she was to open the way for Jordanian women judges whose number now exceeds 170. The senator whose career spans more than 40 years said that her family and children always came first.<br /> &nbsp;<br /> The discussion was part of JMI&rsquo;s lecture series to host local and international speakers and introduce students to diverse perspectives and professions.&nbsp;
