Amman, 16 January (JMI) -- A training program on field reporting for radio for the staff of Sawt Al Aqaba and Sawt Al Janub was concluded in the governorates of Aqaba and Maan. The program was conducted by the Jordan Media Institute (JMI), in partnership with UNESCO and with the support of the EU. The training program, which lasted three days in each governorate, is part of JMI's plan to build the capacities of staff at seven community radios participating in the project on "Building Capacities of Local Radios."

Nihad Al Jariri, director of the project, said that at the end of the training, the participants did reports based on sound scientific and professional principles, having learned about the elements and characteristics of field reporting for radio, which is developed in the field and among the public, and not from a studio or at a desk via telephone. She added that the training program includes a number of topics and themes, such as explaining the terms and concepts pertaining to field reporting and how to formulate specific and direct questions that are relevant to the subject. Also, the participants in the training were given skills and techniques of field work.

JMI has drafted a training plan for building the capacities of staff at community radios taking part in the project on "Building Capacities of Local Radios." This is based on an assessment study conducted by a team of experts with the aim of concretely benefiting the community radios to reflect on their performance by developing the capacities of their staff. Around 150 people are expected to benefit from the program.

The proposed courses within the plan include a number of main topics, such as field reporting for radio, morning shows, news, documentaries, variety shows, and others.
