An MA thesis debated at the Jordan Media Institute (JMI) has shown that the press does not, on the whole, carry out an oversight role in addressing and covering poverty affairs in Jordan.

The study, titled "Commitment of Jordanian Press to Legal and Ethical Responsibility in Publishing Poverty Issues: Viewpoint of Leaders of Social Work," was conducted by Najih Sawalha. It indicated that the press criticizes the government by 43% in the content that addresses issues of poverty and the poor.

The study, supervised by Dr. Sakher Khasawneh, showed that the press content on poverty and the poor in Jordan was insufficient and stood at 46%. The study also concluded that the Jordanian press was committed by 72.8% to not publishing the names and pictures of juveniles who are accused or brought to trial.

The study depended on a simple random sample made up of 162 social work leaders and on analyzing their views.
The debate committee comprised Dr. Sakher Khasawneh as supervisor and Dr. Salim Abdel Raheem, Dr. Jean Karam, and Dr. Sabri Rbeihat.
