JMI, HPC Implement Training Program for Journalists

<br /> The Jordan Media Institute (JMI) and the Higher Population Council (HPC) organized a training workshop on &quot;Media Planning for Advocacy of Population Issues,&quot; attended by a number of journalists and media persons. The aim of the workshop is to educate journalists about population policies and challenges facing Jordanian society. It focuses on the demographic opportunity, the impact of population growth on development, population studies, and the impact of refugees on society.<br /> <br /> Dr. Basim Tweissi, dean of the JMI, made a presentation to the participants in the workshop on the National Strategy for Population Media, which is implemented by the JMI, in collaboration with the HPC. He underlined efforts to develop effective Jordan media, which can influence trends and behaviors in society to positively contribute to population and development studies.<br /> <br /> Tweissi added that &quot;the mission is to enable Jordanian society to have access to population information and to influence the trends and behaviors of Jordanian society and public policies through specialized professional media that helps them to improve the quality of life.&quot;<br /> <br /> Dr. Sawsan Daajah, director of programs at the HPC, said that &quot;the HPC, in collaboration with the JMI, developed a strategy for population communication. Before launching it, we must build the capacities of media persons concerning the concept of the demographic opportunity, which is the basis of the strategy. This is in addition to explaining the impact of population growth on all development sectors and the importance of exchanging experiences about media tools that would introduce the demographic opportunity to society.&quot;<br /> <br /> Cartoonist Omar Abdallat spoke at the workshop about the use of cartoons in press reports on population and the importance of being positive and for journalists to come up with creative ideas. He pointed out that &quot;the workshop aimed at motivation and collaboration to know the tools and concepts that a creative person has and how to raise population issues in a creative manner, as well as the possibility of promoting them and offering new and different content to draw the attention of the public.&quot;<br /> <br /> The workshop will also address media planning in advocacy, introducing the news story, use of infographics in press reports on population, and others.<br /> <br /> Around 25 journalists from different media establishments in the Kingdom are taking part in the workshop, which is within the National Population Strategy implemented by the JMI and the HPC.
