In celebration of the German Press Agency (DPA) 65th anniversary, Jordan Media Institute (JMI) organized an open day in cooperation with German broadcaster Deutche Welle (DW).

Students from Zarqa University, the University of Petra, and Middle East University participated in the event, where they were introduced to JMI services and projects including Jordan Media Credibility Monitor “Akeed” and “Media Literacy”.

Students were also briefed about DPA and its news service. As part of its celebrations, the DPA gave students one-year free subscriptions to its service.

Miriam Klement, DW Distribution Executive - MENA Region, said the open day aims to improve partnership with media students from across Jordanian universities and to introduce the DPA as a main source of news.

Akeed’s Managing Editor, Osama Rawajfeh, briefed the students on the tools used and criteria applied in monitoring media reports. He noted that in its analysis, Akeed chiefly focuses on the content that breaches professional media ethics, not the medium nor the reporter.

Students commended the event, some of whom said they are considering earning a Master’s degree from JMI.
