Amman- The Jordan Media Institute (JMI), in cooperation with the United Nations Children's Funds (UNICEF), announced the launch of the "Child Journalism Award" for 2018 in order to encourage outstanding pieces of child journalism and to promote it in different press and media sectors. The award aims at supporting the contribution of journalists to qualitative coverage of children issues and rights and to have a positive impact on society, reduce violence against children, and build a child-friendly culture in Jordan.<br />

The JMI said that the award includes three categories: "Printed press and news websites," "radio and podcast," and "TV, video journalism and multimedia." The award will be given based on a number of criteria, most important of which are the degree of difficulty of obtaining content, the degree of impact and bringing about change, the importance of the subject, the method of narration, commitment to professional and ethical standards, and others.<br />

The nominated pieces must have tackled issues related to protecting children from violence in Jordan and must have been published between 1 August 2017 and 1 October 2018. They must not have received previous awards.<br />

The deadline for receiving applications is 1 October 2018 by filling out the designated form and sending it along with the journalistic piece to the following email: child-award@jmi.edu.jo.<br />

The JMI, in cooperation with UNICEF, held a number of workshops recently that are specialized in child journalism for around 32 participants from different governorates in the Kingdom with the aim of building the capacities of a number of journalists who are interested in reporting on child issues and encouraging the participants to apply the journalistic skills they acquire from these workshops in their press reporting.
