Deutsche Welle (DW) Director General Peter Limbourg commended the partnership with Jordan Media Institute (JMI) to promote Media and Information Literacy (MIL) as a model project for the success that can be achieved through the exchange of ideas and expertise between journalists from different parts of the world to deal with a global problem.

The head of Germany’s international broadcaster was speaking during a visit to JMI on Monday, 24 February 2020, with a delegation from DW and DW Akademie. He noted that MIL skills were key to helping young users maximize the opportunities of today’s digital information networks while stemming from the dangers.

JMI Dean, Dr. Ziad Rifai said Jordan should be proud of its pioneering achievements in MIL which were possible with support from the government and partnerships with national, regional and international organizations. He also highlighted the role of JMI’s Master’s in Journalism and New Media Program in empowering generations of journalists with the skills they need to support their profession and gain the trust of their communities.

JMI Senior Adviser and Director of the MIL program, Bayan Tal explained that under the partnership with DW Akademie, thousands of teachers across the Kingdom will be trained in addition to updating and developing manuals for teachers and trainers. She noted the importance of the government’s decisions to adopt the National MIL Initiative and name JMI as the implementing partner. These steps are key towards institutionalizing and sustaining MIL in Jordan, she added.

Limbourg also toured the institute and met some of the trainers who are participating in intensive workshops on advanced MIL and ToT skills, organized in partnership with DW Akademie.
