Amman – As part of a project that aims to enrich journalists’ skills in reporting economic news, Jordan Media Institute (JMI) held a training workshop entitled "Economic Reporting" which was attended by 16 journalists from different media outlets.
The project touches on a number of topics including the training of journalists on creating economic-related videos that are easier to digest by the audience. It also addresses the concept of producing economic reports by combining videos and infographics that help explaining data in an engaging way.
Yousef Damrah, a journalist and a trainer at Alghad Newspaper, said that "the workshop focused on economic terminology and its simplification methods so that related videos turn out to be more suitable for a wider scale of viewers through using engaging models like the general budget law, the rates of the economic growth and other related concepts that are of interest the public."
Damra added that "the project will result in the production of economic-related videos that integrate graphics within its content to make them easier to publish and share on social media platforms."
Participant Hakam Omari said that "the workshop addressed new economic concepts and terminology as well as means for reading and analyzing illustrations and figures that accordingly incorporates simplified graphs and terms within the news material."
It is noteworthy that the project also involves conducting a number of workshops as well as a seminars specialized in simplifying economic concepts and terms that circulates the media on a daily basis.
