Amman - Minister of State for Media Affairs and Government Spokesperson, Jumana Ghunaimat, said that “the project of building and developing the skills of official spokespersons of ministries and governmental institutions aims at boosting their abilities and at providing them with the needed knowledge to ensure success in their jobs as well as enabling them to professionally deal with and skillfully verify the sources of their information.”

Conducted at the Jordan Media Institute (JMI), the training is the first of its kind in being directed at spokespersons of ministries and public institutions. Ghuneimat stressed that the project "aims at improving the response-speed of spokespersons during different circumstances as well as enriching their communication skills at times of crises and emergencies, including incidents that relate to economy, development and public services.”

The project will train 40-50 spokespersons from various ministries, governmental and public institutions. The program will build their capacities through ten workshops that focus on their communication skills, their knowledge of information sources, their ability to address the public at times of crises, and their familiarity with concepts of media and communication for development, as well as their understanding of the construction and development of sectoral communication plans.

JMI Dean Dr. Basim Tweissi said that “the Institute will provide exceptionally specialized local and international trainers and speakers to share their knowledge and discuss their experiences with the trainees”.

Tweissi added that “The method of training will be based on a variety of approaches and practices in order to best benefit the trainees and build their skills through a series of lectures and practical study cases that inspect the traditional approaches and examine probable scenarios through advanced applications."

The program, which is implemented by the Jordan Media Institute, targets 50 spokespersons and will span across the period of six weeks.
