The Jordan Media Institute (JMI) held a training workshop on Media and Information Literacy (MIL) at Al Hussein Bin Talal University (AHU) as part of the MIL project implemented by the JMI, in cooperation with UNESCO. The project is supported by the EU. The workshop, which was attended by AHU students from various specializations, included practical exercises that encourage looking at news and information with a critical eye and distinguishing news from opinions, rumors from facts, and bias from impartiality in publishing. This is in addition to framing news and information, stereotypes, hate speech, extremism, and terrorism. <br />

The two-day workshop focused on the importance of commitment to the ethics of publishing and handling the media in terms of what should not be published or republished, besides ways to protect accounts on social media and safe browsing. The workshop also included a technical theme. The participants were trained on skills of photography and video production by mobile phones and working on media campaigns.<br />

The JMI team held a similar workshop for the students of Al al-Bayt University in Mafraq Governorate in February.<br />

The project aims at providing advice to decision-makers on educational policies that seek to develop MIL and support teacher training colleges in introducing MIL into their curricula and working with the Ministry of Education to set up MIL clubs, as a pilot phase, for the 7th, 8th, and 9th grades at a number of public schools. <br />
