JMI Holds Workshop on 'Video Journalism'

<strong>19 Oct. 2017</strong><br /> <br /> Amman -- The Jordan Media Institute (JMI), in cooperation with the Norwegian Institute of Journalism, held a training workshop on video journalism and techniques of using mobile phones for filming. The workshop aimed at briefing the participants about the growing importance of video journalism at present and developing their skills in writing a press story and telling it in the form of a short video.<br /> <br /> The workshop included practical exercises on the basics of filming by using mobile phones, the rules for building a professional video, doing interviews, controlling sound quality, dialogue, scriptwriting, and telling a story.<br /> <br /> Around 35 JMI students and a number of journalists in the Jordanian daily Al Ghad attended the workshop.<br /> <br /> Norwegian trainer Jon Hansen said that the workshop had theoretical aspects and practical exercises after which the participants will be able to produce a short video by using short clips. The participants will also use the applications iMovie and KineMaster Pro on their smart phones.<br /> <br /> Hansen added that the workshop meets the needs of a &quot;video journalist&quot; in terms of the basics of using cameras or mobile phones, writing the story, editing, and doing interviews.<br /> <br /> Ohood Muhsin, a student, said that &quot;the workshop presented new skills in filming by mobile phones. It was an opportunity to develop the skills of the participants in filming and use modern applications to enhance the skills of journalists in the field to be able to do comprehensive press reports.&quot;<br /> <br /> The JMI is one of the largest institutions that offer specialized media training programs in the region. Over the past nine months, it has conducted around 22 specialized training programs, benefiting more than 495 trainees from Jordan and the Arab region, in cooperation and partnership with a select group of local and foreign experts.&nbsp;
