Amman – The Jordan Media Institute (JMI) conducted a training program for building the capacities of media persons at Yaman Shabab (Youth TV) channel.

The program focused on skills of preparing field TV reports. It is part of JMI initiatives and activities to train journalists and media persons on the local and regional levels to enhance their capacities in different specialized and relevant topics.

The three-day training program addressed theoretical and practical aspects. The participants were provided with the characteristics of a successful TV report and how to develop a plan to prepare the report from an editorial perspective, the mechanisms to confirm logistical preparations, the safety of the team, and studying cost. This is in addition to how to prepare a study and sufficient information about the subject to be covered, as well as the right choice of the persons who will speak in the report.

The participants, who produced their own reports in line with the standards that they were given, were trained on the correct sequence of the sections of the report, the writing that goes with the pictures, and interacting with the camera. They were also trained on how to supervise the montage of the report to deliver it to the chief editor as a final product.

The participants in the training program commended the information they received. Kamal Salami, an editor in chief, said that the course was rich in everything related to the TV report and its priorities and ethics, besides the role of the editor in chief in how to handle reports coming from correspondents in the field.

Sarah Ahmad, a news editor, said that the program was useful and realistic and reflected our needs. The trainers drew our attention to common mistakes in building the TV report and how to address them, in addition to the role of the correspondent before, during, and after preparing the report.

Adham Fahd, correspondent of the channel in Yemen, said that what distinguishes the program is the applied aspect and filming skills. We received the information and standards that we lacked, besides the importance of humanizing the report and looking for the minutest details that would enrich it without being redundant or too long.

It is worth noting that the JMI has started receiving applications for the MA program in Journalism and New Media for the year 2017/2018 until 6 July. For more information, please visit the website of the JMI at www.jmi.edu.jo or call the following numbers + 962 6 5713304/6.
