In efforts to strengthen media literacy among children and the youth, JMI has launched a project entitled “Media and Information Literacy for Children and the Youth in the MENA Region: Critical Thinking and Media Awareness”.
TOT workshops targeting teachers, youth leaders, producers, and social media activists will be organized as part of the project funded by Swedish Radio Media Development Office.
The project, implemented in partnership with the African Center for the Development of Journalists and Communicators – Tunisia, and Partners for Sustainable Development – Palestine, also envisions developing training material for trainers.
Pernilla Traghurd, Director of the Swedish Radio Media Development Office, said the project seeks to foster cooperation on important issues that transcend borders, specifically media literacy and informatics.
Senior Advisor to JMI Bayan Tal said the project, implemented in cooperation with Jordanian, Palestinian, and Tunisian institutions seeks to build on JMI efforts in the area of media literacy.
Tunisian Fatima Lawati, the project coordinator said plans are underway to work with partners and producers to produce videos that teachers can use to educate students and promote the concepts of media literacy and informatics.
Edutainment will also be used as a tool for introducing media literacy to beneficiaries, said Jawad Abu Aoun, CEO of Partners for Sustainable Development. Educational games and videos that will be developed under the scheme will be available in Arabic, English, and French, he explained.
