7/16/2017
Amman -- Students from the Jordan Media Institute (JMI) took part in a training program organized by the Free University of Berlin in the German capital, Berlin, under the title "Comparing Media Systems in Arab World and Europe."

The program, which was supervised by Professor Carola Richter from the Faculty of Press and Communication at the University, aims at spreading culture and knowledge of Arab media systems, compared with European media systems, and the challenges faced by journalists in these countries. The program included field visits to media outlets and political establishments, such as the Bundestag, the "Amal, Berlin" platform, a parliamentary conference on journalism, and others.

Academics from the participating countries reviewed the media systems in their countries and the frameworks in which they operate. The JMI presentation spoke about the legal definition of a journalist in Jordan, the principles he must abide by, the Right to Access to Information Law, and freedom of media in Jordan.

The participants were divided into teams. Each team discussed a theme related to an Arab media system in one of the participating countries. There were two aspects, theoretical research work, and practical technical work, which focused on the students' skills in filming and production, including conducting interviews and recording audio clips.

Ethar al-Azm, one of the students, had the following to say about her participation in the program: "Our participation gave us the opportunity to exchange knowledge in the field of preparing press material. It also gave us an opportunity to apply the practical skills that we learned during our study in the institute."

Doaa Nassar, another student, said that the activities of the program introduced us to some aspects of the media system in Germany through different visits, including visiting "Amal, Berlin," which is a media platform in Arabic and Farsi that reports events in Berlin and Germany and the main issues of newcomers.

The JMI applies advanced standards in the quality of teaching new media. It focuses on building a strong knowledge and cultural foundation through allowing its students to develop their capacities by participating in many programs and courses that are held inside the Kingdom or in a number of other countries.
