JMI Dean Dr. Basim Tweissi welcomed the students. He underlined the value system that JMI is based on and seeks to impart to its students, key of which are human rights values, freedoms as a basis for survival, and coexistence as one aim of education.

Dr. Tweissi added that it is important for media persons to keep up with the fast changes in the media sector due to the great development linked to technology and its uses in this profession. He urged students to focus on the practical aspect and parallel programs, such as workshops and academic visits in the program. This aspect complements curricula. This is in addition to JMI's interest in motivating innovation and creativity and providing all that is new.
This intake had a written aptitude test and then personal interviews to select the best qualified students to fulfill the mission of JMI.
The MA program has two tracks: The comprehensive track, which aims at providing advanced skills for students, specifically in digital journalism; and the academic thesis, which aims at developing skills of research and journalistic writing and instilling ethical and professional standards in students.

The program applies advanced standards to the quality of journalism teaching, based on balance between the theoretical and practical aspects and integration in communication technology and digital applications.
JMI is the first Arab educational institution to develop its teaching curricula in journalism by taking advantage of the elements of the digital environment, besides focusing on building a solid knowledge-cultural base for students.
