The Jordan Media Institute (JMI) has begun conducting a study on "Assessing the Needs of Media Training for Jordanian Journalists" in the sectors of the printed press, radio, television, and digital media within the project of supporting Jordanian media, undertaken by UNESCO, in cooperation with the French international agency for media development, CFI.
JMI Dean Dr. Basim Tweissi pointed out that this survey is meant to close a gap in assessing training needs and capacity building in the Jordanian media sector. Studies in this field are rare; there is a pressing need for media and training institutions to scientifically learn about the training needs in each sector. JMI will make sure to conduct this study once every two years in view of the scope of change in the instruments of new media, which requires keeping up with this change in capacity building.
The study sample includes assessing the needs of media persons in private, public, and community media institutions, according to the type of the media outlet. It will be conducted in four regions, which are the capital, center, south, and north. The sample also includes assessing media officials and journalists themselves.
The study addresses the level of engagement and participation of journalists in media training over the past two years and identifying the training needs of journalists on different professional levels and in accordance with the media field in which they operate and the areas of their operation. Recommendations will be submitted on training priorities in each region and in each field of media work.
