Amman - A study titled "Hate Speech on Jordanian News Websites: Content Analysis," of a number of local news websites about the spread of hate speech in the Jordanian media has shown that it makes up 13% of the total news items that were studied.

The thesis, submitted by Afnan al-Wahsh to earn the MA degree from the Jordan Media Institute (JMI), showed that 13% is not low and that it indicates a flaw in professionalism, objectivity, and commitment to the standards and ethics of journalistic work.
According to the study, most of the hate speech focused on local issues in the categories of internal security, non-criminal incidents, corruption, public services, civil society, religious issues, human rights issues, elections, and political participation. Hate speech was not observed in topics related to foreign policy or the judiciary.
The study aimed at shedding light on hate speech in Jordanian electronic media through analyzing the content published on three Jordanian news websites.
The debate committee included Professor Basim Tweissi, Professor Amin Mashqbah, and Dr. Jean Karam, in addition to Dr. Sakher Khasawneh, who supervised the study.
