Amman -- A research study said that in the wake of the emergence of the Islamic State organization (Daesh) in recent years, the visual media rhetoric in Jordan has been the main method for drawing the attention of Jordanian public opinion to the seriousness of a number of issues, including the issue of the social security of citizens.

The study, which was titled "Trends of Visual Media Rhetoric in Jordan Toward the Islamic State Organization 'Daesh': The Example of Jordan TV and Ro'ya TV 2014-2015," conducted by Abdullah Kafaween and debated at the Jordan Media Institute (JMI) for the purpose of earning the MA degree, added that the messages addressed by the local visual media--Jordan TV and Ro'ya TV--about Daesh circulated widely among Jordanians and consequently this influenced the public and changed its opinions and impressions about this organization.

The researcher said that this study came after Jordanian society faced direct threats by Daesh, especially when Jordan joined the international coalition to counter terrorism. Therefore, it was necessary to study the Jordanian visual media rhetoric and how it handled these threats and whether this rhetoric had different ways of handling crises.

The study called on media establishments to develop a tool for measuring the impact of Daesh rhetoric on society in order to develop a methodology for handling this rhetoric and develop editorial policies to address common crises. This is in addition to raising awareness of the people in charge of communication about press and media codes in Jordan.

The study, supervised by Dr. Jamal Shalabi, professor of political science, said that it aimed at identifying the trends of visual media rhetoric in Jordan in its political and media vision of Daesh, the nature of the media handling by visual media establishments, and the impact of the Jordanian visual media rhetoric on society as viewed by communicators. Additionally, it aimed at exploring the influence of the Jordanian official media policy on guiding visual media establishments in their media handling of the organization.
