MA Thesis at JMI: Ethical, Legal Standards in Publishing Journalistic Photos on News Websites

Amman – An MA thesis entitled “The Ethical and Legal Standards in Publishing Journalistic Photos on News Websites (Ammon, Khaberni, Saraya News, Al-Wakeel)” was debated by student Farah Atyyat at the Jordan Media Institute (JMI). The study analyzed the photos published on these websites in the period between January and August, 2018.

The study detects the application of ethical and legal standards in news websites’ published images, in order to improve the social responsibility of media outlets in Jordan.

Atyyat’s thesis also addresses the media’s commitment to these ethical and legal standards in their use of photos within the framework of social responsibility. Assessments are based on the identified scientific methods used to measure the level of the media’s social responsibility and on analyzing the content of these websites.

The result conclude an acceptable medium level of compliance within the Jordanian news websites.

The thesis defense committee consisted of: Supervisor of the thesis Dr. Sakher Khasawneh, JMI Dean Dr. Basim Tweissi, Dr. Ali Nejadat and Dr. Salim Abdul-Rahim.
