The MoU was signed by Minister of Youth Engineer Hadithah Khreishah and JMI Dean Professor Basim Tweissi.

The MoU provides for designing and developing three training curricula in the area of media and information literacy and implementing 22 intensive training programs in 12 governorates. The focus will be on enabling youth to counter extremism and harmful media messages. Around 500 young people will benefit from the training.

Minister of Youth Engineer Hadithah Khreishah said that launching the new partnership between the Ministry and the JMI comes within the framework of the role of youth in awareness raising and implementing United Nations Security Council Resolution No. 2250 (Youth, Peace and Security), which was issued in a session presided over by HRH Crown Prince Al Hussein Bin Abdullah. He indicated that the activities of the Ministry aim at building the capacities of youth to handle media, counter all forms of extremism, and improve media work for youth. The agreement is the first step in cooperation between the Ministry and the JMI.

JMI Dean Professor Basim Tweissi said that the partnership between the JMI and the Ministry of Youth is meant to help boost the capacities of youth and empower them in media and information literacy, especially since studies confirm that youth use media the most and are most influenced by its content.

Tweissi added that the JMI would design three training curricula in media and information literacy, which will include an introduction to media and information literacy (understanding contemporary media), news media literacy (eradicating news illiteracy), and digital media literacy.

The program will be implemented by the JMI in cooperation with the GIZ and with the support of the EU.
