Amman - The Jordan Media Institute (JMI), in cooperation with the Norwegian Institute of Journalism, organized a “Mobile Journalism” workshop with trainers Frode Rekve and Jon Terje Hansen.

The workshop, which was attended by 38 students from the Institute, came within the framework of JMI’s collaborations with various local and international organizations, including The Norwegian Institute of Journalism, in order to promote and empower the students with various journalism and technical tools.

"The workshop included theoretical and practical training on how to produce news videos via mobile devices through filming and editing, applying techniques of audio and montage, and using a number of applications that result in creating a consistent storyline that attracts viewers," Hansen said.

Accompanied and supervised by the trainers, the students visited downtown Amman, where they conducted a practical session in producing news stories which were filmed and edited using mobiles.

JMI’s student, Yousef Abu Rumman, said that the workshop came in compliance with the current journalistic needs for covering urgent events of various kinds in professional and innovative ways. The training also promoted the concepts of mass journalism and the ability to produce in-depth material in a short period of time, he added.

Hansen is a professional photographer and the head of the photography department at the Norwegian “Daily National” newspaper. He is also a trainer for a number of newspapers and websites as well as the Norwegian Institute of Journalism.
