Amman – The report entitled "In the Name of Honor; Women Deprived of Their Freedom in Jordan" by Melad Al-Zoubi –a former student of the Jordan Media Institute (JMI) – won the best Human Rights Report Award of 2018.
Published on JMI Journalists website, the report was Al-Zoubi 's graduation project during the 2017/2018 academic year.
The Journalists for Human Rights (JHR), an independent Canadian organization, announced the winners during the 11th Annual ARIJ Forum for Arab Investigative Reporters at the Dead Sea last week.
Al-Zoubi said that "the award came after much hard work and a very complex story that addresses the issue of administrative detention of females."
We faced many difficulties in covering the story due to the scarcity of information and the lack of sources, Al-Zoubi added.
The report covered the story from all angles and viewpoints, starting with the domestic violence until the administrative dentition where these women are admitted to reform centers. Al-Zoubi added that JMI has provided him with all the technical and logistical the resources required to carry out his research and complete his report. Adding that his report was granted the best award out of 35 other entries.
The second prize was jointly won by Sonia Zaghloul for her report: "Children of Terrorists: Like and Share in Courts" and Heba Abu Taha for her report: "Sexual Transgressors Making Their Way to Their Unprotected Rights."
