Project: Youth Empowerment – Broadcasting MIL

Objectives:

The project aims to supporting professors and students in two Universities’ radio stations in Irbid and Ma’an to produce and broadcast content that promotes Media and Information Literacy concepts, with a focus on human rights reporting and ability to utilize knowledge of strategic communication design by means of exercising professional journalism.

Project Description:

The project includes:

  1. Training a group of professors and radio staff in the respective universities on MIL to include topics such as: human rights reporting, gender reporting, hate speech and misinformation, professional journalism and strategic communication.
  2. Training a group of students/volunteers representing the two universities on MIL to include topics such as: human rights reporting, gender reporting, hate speech and misinformation, professional journalism and strategic communication; with focus on ethics in media and where to obtain legal opinion when in doubt.
  3. Provide in-house mentorship for the two radios for a duration of at least 6 months, during which 30 radio shows will be produced. The radio shows will be presenting MIL concepts.
  4. Prepare and present a training guidebook that collects all training material and resources used in the training and production for future reference and utilization. The guidebook will serve as a toolkit that include examples and case studies, videos that could serve as tutorials, audio/podcast material that could also serve as tutorials.

Project Outputs:

  1. Signing MoUs with Al-Hussein Bin Talal University and Yarmouk University.
  2. Implementing a training program “Media & Information Literacy focusing on Human Rights and Gender” for 9 professors from the respective universities.
  3. Implementing two training programs “Media & Information Literacy focusing on Human Rights and Gender” for 25 students of the volunteers working at the local radios of the respective universities.
