20 Feb. 2018

Amman- HRH Princess Rym Ali said that professional and committed journalism is the one that will survive. She added: Readers are intelligent and can tell a true story from a fake story. Unprofessional journalism cannot deceive the public forever.

During a breakfast with the students of the ninth intake at the Jordan Media Institute (JMI), the teaching staff, and JMI Dean Professor Basim Tweissi, HRH Princess Rym Ali noted the importance of having public service media as an objective and balanced platform that can raise issues of interest to the public neutrally and impartially.

On issues of new media and the importance of ethics in media work, HRH Princess Rym Ali said that "the professional reputation of journalists is the basis of the confidence of the public. No matter how renowned a journalist is, readers might not be interested in what he writes if they feel that the journalist is using unprofessional methods to convince the public, even if the journalist uses these methods only once."

HRH Princess Rym Ali and the students had a discussion, during which she underlined the need for expanding the translation of important media references and research work into Arabic. This will serve the profession of media and journalism and enrich the Arabic library.

Hamzah Basbous, a student, said that the meeting with HRH Princess Rym Ali was important to emphasize positive aspects and address challenges that students face. He hoped that such meetings would be used to raise new ideas and promote the performance of students. Shireen Nidal, another student, also noted that the meeting inspired optimism. It was a nice gesture by HRH Princess Rym Ali, who highlighted a number of topics that are important for media and journalism in general and for the future of JMI students in particular.
