Princess Rym Ali Takes Part in Panel Discussion With Dortmund University Journalism Students

17 Dec. 2017&nbsp;<br /> <br /> Amman- HRH Princess Rym Ali, founder of the Jordan Media Institute (JMI), said that there is a pressing need for minimizing the negative effect of the media on individuals of various ages, specifically children, who are especially attached to digital tools. She noted the need for building on the Media and Information Literacy project, implemented by the JMI in cooperation with UNESCO and the EU.<br /> <br /> HRH Princess Rym Ali made the remarks during a panel discussion at the JMI with students from the Erich Brost Institute for International Journalism in the Technical University of Dortmund. They discussed many issues related to journalism and media and the situation in Jordan.<br /> <br /> HRH Princess Rym Ali spoke about her journalism career, during which she worked with Radio Monte Carlo, BBC, and CNN. She also spoke to the students about how she covered the 11 September events in the United States and ensuing developments, as well as the research and investigation she undertook about the families of the perpetrators of the September attacks, during which she traveled to Pakistan, Afghanistan, Kuwait, and Saudi Arabia. She further briefed the German students on her experience in Iraq during and after the U.S. attack on Iraq in 2003.<br /> <br /> HRH Princess Rym Ali explained to the German students the aim of establishing the JMI and that she wanted to graduate more professional journalists, develop journalistic standards, and expand the concept of teaching journalism, which is confined to classrooms and focuses on theories, to include both theory and practice.<br /> <br /> HRH Princess Rym Ali pointed out that the philosophy behind bringing journalists to the JMI and teaching and training them is not only to enable them to tell stories, but also to add a humanitarian dimension to these stories; in other words, humanizing stories.&nbsp;
