Amman- The Radio Netherlands Training Center (RNTC), in cooperation with the Jordan Media Institute (JMI), organized a training course titled "Using Media in Combating Extremism," with the support of the Dutch Foundation for Internationalization in Education and the Dutch Foreign Ministry.<br />

The two-week training focused on components of a strong and attractive news story and developing counter-narrative approaches in media outlets and social media, as well as proposing alternative stories and the best persuasion methods for the target audience, preparing for interviews, and designating selected focus groups and their impact on behavior and emotional reactions.<br />

Trainer Anass Bendrif said that "the course aims at creating an alternative discourse to the radical discourse in combating extremism through influencing receivers by using new and diverse theories and finding an alternative discourse with which the receiver will interact to combat extremism and create media content through practical, and not only theoretical, journalistic practice.<br />
<br />
Among 16 journalists taking part in the training, Zain Jubaili, one of the participants in the course, said that the training focused on how to write press reports to combat extremism and on paying attention to the key and important elements in narrating the news story through practical, theoretical, and interactive training between the lecturer and the participants.<br />
<br />
The JMI and the RNTC had previously organized a number of training courses, including "Using Media To Counter Extremism" for a number of Jordanian and Egyptian journalists.<br />
