This workshop came as part of the project “Expanding Public Dialogue on Human Rights Issues through Media”.

The workshop aims to introduce participants to the concepts of communication and its tools, the important role of media in Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), as well as the principles of effective media relations. Training sessions also discussed planning basics for dealing with media.

The 3-day workshop was attended by ten participants from seven local CSOs that deal with human rights issues. The participants, who were trained by Fateh Mansour, Programme Manager at CDFJ, discussed on the last day the types of media activities, in addition to media and CSOs relationship challenges.

The project includes a follow-up and supervision plan for trainees at their institutions to set up a media plan that suits the needs of each institution in order to enhance its communication with the media.

The project, which was launched by the Canadian organization “Journalists for Human Rights” (JHR) in partnership with JMI and local partners, aims to expand citizen and state dialogue on human rights, gender and freedom of expression through strengthened media in the MENA region. It will mentor and train journalists, journalism students and representatives from CSOs on the power of data to help make this dialogue more effective and informed.

On the other hand, the Jordan Media Institute announced the start of the admission process for the Master’s programme in Journalism and New Media for the academic year 2014-2015.
