Workshop On Labour Migration At JMI

The Jordan Media Institute (JMI) launched a workshop on 12 August 2014 specialized in covering news on labour migration and human trafficking. The three-day workshop due to conclude this afternoon was organised in cooperation with the Panos Europe Institute and the International Labour Organization (ILO).<br /> &nbsp;<br /> With the help of experts in these fields, the workshop aims to promote the skills of journalists working in local media institutions in writing specialized reports on the situation of migrant workers in Jordan.&nbsp; The ultimate goal is to improve migration policies, better manage and organise the domestic workers&rsquo; sector and help governments to combat human trafficking.<br /> &nbsp;<br /> Throughout the workshop, participants worked on analysing the current coverage of migrant labour issues with the object of identifying opportunities for improvement.&nbsp; They also learned the tools and skills that will enable them to produce in-depth reports on said issues, and exchanged ideas with the experts, all under the umbrella of professional work standards and ethics, and the culture of human rights. The workshop was organised as part of JMI&rsquo;s various activities which seek to improve the media&rsquo;s output quality, and contribute in setting new standards for journalism education in Jordan.<br /> &nbsp;<br /> Panos Europe Institute was set up in Paris as a non-governmental organization that focuses on supporting media diversity.&nbsp; The ILO is the only United Nations agency that includes representatives of governments, employers and employees.&nbsp; It provides technical assistance to its affiliates through several regional and international projects aimed at addressing migration policies and issues, and organizing the migrant workers&rsquo; sector.<br /> &nbsp;
